The Iowa Assessments (formerly the Iowa Test of Basic Skills) is a nationally normed achievement test that can help you track your child’s academic progress and identify any areas of weakness.
Testing helps you and your student in several ways:
- You will gain valuable insight into how your child performs academically compared to typical students in the United States.
- Testing can help you identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Testing scores serve as a helpful benchmark if you choose to enroll your student in a public or private school in the future.
- Your student will gain practice in test-taking skills, which will be helpful in future testing such as for the SAT, ACT, or TSI.
We will administer the test during the first week of May, after Thrive’s classes have ended. Testing will take place over multiple days from 9 a.m. to noon:
Grade 1 will test on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to noon
Grade 2 will test on Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to noon
Grades 3-8 will test on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (3rd graders will stay until 3:00 p.m.)
Grades 9-12 will test on Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Your student must be available for both dates.
You may order practice materials here: Practice Tests (Test preparation materials are also available from other providers.)
Materials Needed: Please have your students bring sharpened #2 pencils, a water bottle, and a snack.
