Description: Explore Early American History from 1400 to the mid-1800s through the engaging lens of key historical figures. Guided by living history picture books, this course offers a captivating overview of key events, figures, and cultural developments, enhanced by interactive elements. Students will embark on a unique journey, that encourages critical thinking and reflection on major documents that shaped the nation, making history accessible and relatable. Students will create a keepsake notebook to help them remember these key figures and events that shaped our country from the start. Hands-on experiences include experimenting with Vikings runes alphabet, Taino Indian petroglyphs, treasure hunts, “Ships” snack, Jamestown fort activities, a classroom “thanksgiving meal,” exposure to founding songs such as “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” looking at and becoming familiar with the constitution, drawing the Whitehouse, the Liberty Bell, and American flag. Studies will also cover The Pony Express and the Industrial Revolution. Students will notebook through the course and take home their keepsake of their year long learning.
